Motor Race Track on a Cruise Ship?

That’s right – Norwegian Cruise Line have just announced that their newest ship, Norwegian Joy, will have a two deck race track!

This will enable them to have enough room to accommodate 10 electric go-karts at a time!

This is another first for the cruising world – the worlds first race track on a cruise ship. NCL have stated that they will carry a ‘prominant brand’ when it comes to the building of supercars.

There will be a charge to use this exciting new amenity although guests staying in the higher grade Haven and Concierge ares will have free access included in the price of their cruise fare.

This isn’t the only exciting announcement made about this new ship – Norwegian Cruise Line have also said that below the water level, the new ship will also feature the Silverstream hull air lubrication system as well as ABB Azipods making her more energy efficient.

More exciting though are the water slides, an outdoor laser tag area and bumper cars that Norwegian Cruise Line have said will be added to their newest vessel.

And is if that wasn’t enough, a shopping district will be added – NCL’s largest shopping mall at sea.

The ship is being designed for and will be deployed to the Chinese market as NCL’s first ship specifically for that market – due for delivery from the Meyer Werft builder on 27th April after completing sea trials in March of this year.  She’ll be christened in Shanghai during a ceremony at the end June. Apparently, the ‘King of Chinese Pop’, Wang Leehom, also an actor, will be present.

This part of the world seems to be gaining momentum at a very fast pace in the cruising world. We’re seeing more and more ships being deployed in the area and many offering more sailings – Royal Caribbean, Princess, Costa and Crystal have all recently increased their presence in China.

What do you think? I’m struggling to think of what they could possibly come up with next to put on a cruise ship! When will they run out of ideas??
