This spectacular voyage highlights the inseparable links between Norway’s rich heritage and the sea, exploring how both have shaped the modern life of its coastal communities. Combining the Voyages North and South, the Classic Round Voyage is the ultimate way to truly discover the iconic Norwegian coastline. Joining the ship in Bergen, you embark on the classic journey taking you from the beautiful south, to the wild and remote north, then back again. With regular optional excursions along the way, the ports you pass at night time on your northbound voyage are visited by day on your return south, ensuring you get to fully experience this fascinating coast. More time on board increased yur chances of seeing the magical Northern Lights. Join us in hunting the Aurora Borealis - set to be the best in 50 years, according to NASA - a major element of the winter journey, making an expedition along the coast of Norway a truly enchanting experience. In the winter, the sun is low on the horizon and, north of the Arctic Circle, can even be below the horizon for some weeks. This natural phenomenon creates a fascinating light. You can never know when the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights, will appear, but sailing with Hurtigruten will provide the best possibilities to experience the magic color show from light green to dark purple flickering across the Arctic sky. EXPLORE THE ARCTIC SCENERY Unlock the wonders of the Arctic north with special shore excursions. Spend an unforgettable night in a snow hotel. Embark on a snowmobile safari in Lapland. Thrill to the action of dog sledding on the island of Kvaløya. Whatever the activity, you are in the middle of spectacular winter scenery. HUNTING THE LIGHT The term “Hunting the Light” originates from one of our captains. He had observed guests out on deck chasing the most magical of all natural phenomena; the Northern Lights. “Hunting the Light” is a signature of Hurtigruten’s winter voyages, hunting and experiencing the many and beautiful types of light visible during the winter months. Our vessels are built for one main purpose – to bring guests close to nature and wildlife, close to unforgettable experiences and close to the real Norway. Our smaller, more intimate ships make it easier for you to get to know your fellow travelers. You will share stunning sights, become friends and take away memories that will last for a lifetime. Our welcoming and informal atmosphere, combined with a wide choice of cabins will ensure that your comfortable, scenic voyage lives long in the memory.
Local Food & Talented Chefs A journey on Hurtigruten is not only a feast for your eyes. Your taste buds can anticipate mouth-watering experiences along the coast too. Join us in savoring the best the Norwegian coastline has to offer.
Our on board cuisine is inspired by the traditional dishes available in the places and ports we visit. Fresh, seasonal ingredients and local products will satisfy hearty appetites sharpened by the clean sea air. The restaurants are fully licensed and the set dinner at your reserved table becomes an occasion to exchange your daily experiences. Afterwards you can enjoy fresh coffee in any of the lounges or a drink in one of the bars.
All of our delicious meals on board are prepared by experienced Norwegian chefs. We aim to offer you a range of cuisine as impressive as the skill with which it is cooked – from the richly traditional to the completely modern. To accompany each meal, you can choose from our comprehensive menu of red and white wines, beer, aquavit and mineral water. Your table awaits… The ships in Hurtigruten’s 11-strong fleet vary in size and age but they all maintain the same welcoming, relaxed and intimate atmosphere on board. From the privacy and comfort of your cabin to the open spaces of the public decks, the emphasis of every Hurtigruten voyage is informality, relaxation and enjoying the spectacle of the ever-changing scenery. Whether you choose to enjoy this out in the fresh sea air on one of our many decks or from the peace and tranquillity of our panorama lounge is entirely at your discretion. While our levels of service and your experience are the same, the ships differ from each other greatly. Depending on your preference, the older heritage vessels will take you back to the golden age of Hurtigruten with their wooden paneling and more classical design while the artwork, facilities and size of the larger, newer vessels give you more deck space, larger public areas and even the opportunity to enjoy our outdoor Jacuzzis when you are deep in the Arctic Circle! Whichever Hurtigruten ship you decide to join for your voyage along the beautiful Norwegian coast, our friendly, intimate ships will travel through the same narrow channels to visit the same ports that they have done for years, carrying passengers and supplies almost 365 days a year.
