Thank you and Merry Christmas from all at Cruise.co.uk

Many thanks to all those that have contributed to the forums, written reviews, posted their cruise photos, added comments, asked questions and given all that valuable advice about cruising.

We have just been on our 2009 Christmas party cruise on Fred. Olsen's Balmoral cruising from Dover to Amsterdam and back. A good time was had by all as you can see below! However, there was a point when none of us thought we would even make it to Dover.

Cruise.co.uk Christmas Party 2009

As you may have seen on the news, traffic and travel in the South East of England was severely disrupted by snow and icy conditions which when combined with problems on the Eurostar and strikes at Calais meant that all routes into Dover on 19th December were brought to a standstill. That didn't stop us from reaching our goal of a 2 night mini cruise to Amsterdam though. When we became gridlocked about 5 miles from Dover we grabbed our cases from the coach and walked through the snow and the darkness and past the lorries until (a few hours later) we reached the port and embarked on Balmoral for a great weekend.

we had a fab time on the 2 night cruise to amsterdam, service good from waiters until breakfast when they didn,t want to know (perhaps we should have left the tip until after breakfast) but having said that we had a lovely family time with my 90 year old mother.

I have to say that you all scrub up well !!, sorry about the hike you had prior to joining the ship, just put it down as exercise BEFORE all the indulgence on board. A very Happy Christmas to you all and good wishes for the New Year.

I am sorry that you had to walk to the ship. However there are those of us in the north who are still experiencing snow & ice- the forecasters cannot seem to get it right- snow showers have turned into blizzards on Sunday, Tuesday & now Thursday 24th Dec. I have never before known Carol services cancelled ( Health & Safety) Please pause & think ( while you party) those many people who are likely to have Christmas cancelled; we have haerd lots of reports of conditions in the south, the north are still suffering!
