Win the Sunbed race

We’ve beaten them on the beaches and they’ve beaten ever since at Football and they beat us to the sunbeds. Yes, we all know that if you go on a typical Spanish holiday in the Sun that the Germans will always beat you to a Sunbed. They must set their alarms for the crack of dawn and rush down to the pool in their PJ’s to throw their towel over their favourite sunbed and secure it knowing they can get back in bed, finish their sleep in, up, shower breakfast and by the pool at 10am with their towel having secured their chosen sunbed. They think it’s all over, it is towel now!

We’ve all seen it and it’s driven me nuts in the past. Throw a towel down and then disappear for three hours and expect your sunbed to be untouched on your return. I like the cruise-lines idea of any sun lounger unattended for 30 minutes or more and they’ll remove your towel and vacate the sun lounger for someone else. So they should. It’s just not fair on anyone. You either want it or you don’t. I just wish that cruise-lines would adhere to this and enforce the rule.

Now, we seem to have a solution or do we? Thomas Cook recently announced that at selected hotels that you can now pre-book a sunbed for £22 and this will be your sunbed for the duration of your holiday and no one else can touch it. You can even look at a sun bed planner and pick one out. Is this the way to win the sun bed war?

Personally I’m not sure this is a good idea or not. Is it just a money making scheme? We’ve had pre-book seats and meals on the planes and now this.  I wonder if next you will be able to select a hotel room number, like a cabin choice. Just when will it stop? Perhaps cruise lines will be next to follow.

What do you think? Would you pay to pre-book a sunbed? Let me know your thoughts on this new idea of securing your sun bed.
