New for 2022

Carnival Corporation have announced it had signed a shipbuilding contract for a second next-generation cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand with Meyer Werft that is scheduled to be delivered in 2022. This will be similar to P&O’s sister ship to be delivered in 2020. This new vessel will be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market.

She will be at 180,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests. This will rival some of the largest Royal Caribbean ships for sure and I think this is great for the British as we often say it’s the Americans who always do everything big.

P&O have a bold and ambitious vision for P&O Cruises to become Britain’s number one holiday choice and can only do that by increasing their fleet. The build for the 2020 ship will begin this spring and it will offer all generations of British guests the holiday of a lifetime on the next generation of P&O Cruises ships. We shall see, and I am certainly excited about this. I have to admit the first impression I got of P&O was they sounded like a ferry company and wasn’t appealing as a name like Royal Caribbean but having been aboard P&O for my own holiday and hearing this exciting news, I can’t wait to hear the ship’s name being announced and to take bookings for it. I think I’ll put my name down at work and see if I can get an invitation for a ship visit. I’ll juts need to grovel around the boss!

The first of our new ships will go on sale in September and P&O will be announcing key elements of the design and build this year. P&O Cruises signature features in dining and entertainment will be across all the ships, but the space and build of the two new ships will allow them to have innovative new experiences to create the most memorable holidays.

I certainly hope so. I find this really exciting to look forward to. What do you think? P&O have recently lost one of it’s smallest ships, selling the Adonia to Azamara. Are they now wanting to go big and faze out the smaller ships? Bigger ships, more guests on board spending right? Who knows if P&O will keep introducing the larger ships and I wonder what will happen to the smaller older one’s.

I’d like to know what you think, if you think this is what P&O are doing and will you be put off by sailing with P&O as they’ll be known like Royal Caribbean to have very large ships.

I have regular customers who sail with them because they don’t think the ships are too large. This could be interesting for the current customers and not just the new generations. We shall see.
