Latest and largest addition to Marella cruises

Marella Explorer the latest purchase to the Marella Cruise fleet also known as Thomson Cruises or TUI, it’s all part of the same company but it can be a bit confusing with all their different names

The Explorer is currently undergoing refurbishment in a shipyard in Spain. The ship is due to depart on the 13th May and will be leaving Majorca on the 19th May for her first Mediterranean cruise. The capacity is 1,924 passengers and has 962 cabins and nearly half of the cabins are balconies, she is 13 decks high. Marella is adding two new features on board. A club and casino called Indigo and a Champneys spa, a top brand to be found for the first time on a cruise ship. Indigo casino and club will be characterized by a very long bar and sea views all the way round. Champneys spa will offer thermal and treatment suites, a Finnish Sauna and spa cabanas on the own private veranda.

The ship’s launch will take place in Majorca on the 17th May, it was a total surprise when Thomson announced the Godmothers. I never knew this but unlike other cruise line who would normally choose notorious public faces and Celebrities Thomson traditionally chooses their members of staff including crew who deserve outstanding recognition of their role

This time the announcement was made to the cruise line’s hotel operations manager, Sue Stewart, and TUI agent Mandy Galloway working in a TUI shop in Edinburgh

Marella Cruises’ managing director, Chris Hackney, said Stewart and Galloway were “two outstanding employees. Both Sue and Mandy have contributed greatly to TUI and significantly our cruise business over the years. Their drive and passion are invaluable and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them as the godmothers of our newest ship.”
