P&O aim for the ‘new to cruise’ market

This week P&O announced a second new ship will join the family in 2022.

This is a brave move especially as the biggest ship in the fleet at the moment is just over 3,000 passengers.

The new ships plan to accommodate over 5,000 passengers each.

The Britannia which is currently the P&O flagship has been very popular ship but did have issues in the beginning with the capacity of the theatre and entertainment venues. I hope they can learn and tailor the ship to a specific market.

The 2 new ships hope to attract new guests to cruising. I think they will have to offer something a little different and put a big focus on families. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way.

My daughter loves a pool with shallow end, slides and fun inflatables or floats.

Younger children love interactive games and play with other children while older children are all about gadgets and gaming.

They also need to get the pricing right. These days families like an all-inclusive holidays. They feel safe knowing everything is included and avoiding spending too much money. Budgeting before you go is key.

I really liked the size of the Ventura. 3100 passengers is just right! They had it spot on with the entertainment. There was something for everyone. The shows were amazing and fantastic for children.

Regular P&O guest still love the adult only ships like the Arcadia and Oriana.

The Arcadia is lovely and offers a slightly lower key experience but without the children. I loved the pub and the afternoon tea on-board.

I think its great that they cater for such different markets. By 2022 there will be a place for everyone to enjoy cruising the British way which is fantastic. Offering the British style will really suit the new to cruise market.

What do you think about the new ships?

Are they too big?

Do you like the smaller more traditional ships?

I would love to hear your thoughts
