No more Party cruises for P&O

No more Party cruises for P&O

I have done many mini cruises in my time, 2 of which were with P&O on-board the Ventura and Britannia. The mini cruises are a fantastic way to get a sneak preview of a cruise company/ ship.

I always make sure I experience as much as possible. Taking in a show, afternoon tea, enrichment and guest speakers are all on my list of things to do as well as dining at as many restaurants and having a little drink in each bar!

The mini cruise experience is very different from a longer cruise. The cruise lines tend to cram as many people on the ships as possible! This causes so much waiting around and queueing which is a shame when you are only on a short cruise.

The mini cruises attract the party people! Hen/ stag nights, birthdays/ anniversaries so the type of customer on-board can be very different.

So many people try a mini cruise before a longer cruise to see if they like it. Believe me. It is a very different experience from a mini cruise.

In most cases you also must carry on and off your luggage. Again, this slows the whole process and the is no relaxing atmosphere.

You need to book speciality restaurants in advance and any shows you want to attend, you must be there early to guarantee your place.

P&O are making some big changes to the mini cruises. No longer will they be called Party cruises… they will be known as short breaks.

No more fancy dress or novelty clothing. No more inflatables or drunken behaviour.

I think this will be welcomed from most P&O guests and it will keep the eticate that is expected from a cruise.

I also feel P&O will discourage some people from trying cruising because of the formalities.

What do you think?

Is this a step too far for P&O?

I would love to hear what you think
