Disappointment as cruise is cancelled

P&O have recently cancelled a 50-night cruise on-board the Oriana.

The cancellation came less than 2 months before sailing and has left so many people disappointed and out of pocket.

The Oriana is one of the most popular P&O ships especially with regular guests.

The ship is mid-size and carries just adults which appeals to many.

P&O cannot have taken the decision lightly. To cancel hundreds of customers on a 50-night cruise must be a big blow to P&O. For some maybe even most, this will have been a holiday of a lifetime! The cruise was sailing to the Caribbean and North America with such an amazing itinerary.

So many longer cruises from Southampton focus on 1 area like the Caribbean or are much longer durations sailing around the world.

Essential maintenance to the Oriana is needed and this comes just 1 year after a full re-fit.

Earlier in October the Oriana had boiler failure which caused a delay in Gibraltar by 1 day. When this happens so soon after a re-fit you have got to ask yourself why. The work which took place must have not been completed or errors were made.

Guest booked on the cruise were offered a choice of 4 other sailings to the Caribbean and a future cruise credit of 5%. some had no choice but to take a full refund which was also an option.

I switched one couple to the Ventura 35-night cruise which went to some similar ports in the US and Caribbean.

So many have been left out of pocket. Looking at reviews, things like costs for visas, trips, travel, and hotel rooms. I would hope P&O will help with costs.

What do you think about the changes?

Were you booked on the cruise? Do you know someone who was booked on the cruise? What other plans have they made?

Thanks for reading
