Drew U Legend

Earlier this week I received some really upsetting news.  Once of my work colleagues and a friend had passed away aged just 30 years old.

Drew was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Sarcoma in October 2011.  I used to sit next to Drew in the office and we always used to have a laugh and a good bit of friendly banter.  I remember Drew telling me that he was getting some pains in his back and that he was going to go to the doctors.  I then had a week’s holiday from work and when I returned Drew wasn’t sat in his chair, it was then that I was told that Drew had been diagnosed with cancer.

This news really shook everyone in our office it was awful.  Drew really fought the cancer, he often came out for meals with friends from work, came into the office, in fact for a good while he came into the office and worked despite what he was going through.  I never saw him moan or get upset, he was such a positive person.

The thing about Drew was that he was a larger than life character.  You always knew when Drew was around, he always lifted the mood when he was there.  Everyone loved Drew, there was nothing not to like about him.  He was always cracking jokes and always had a beaming smile on his face even during the difficult times he was going through.

I will remember Drew as one of the best people I have ever met and the way he dealt with his illness was so admirable, simply put, the man was an absolute legend.

Drew set up a charity while he was ill to help raise funds for the rare form of cancer he was suffering from, you can visit the following link for more details.

On 21st October many of my colleagues will be running a half marathon to raise funds and awareness for Drew’s charity.  I don’t have the fitness myself but I am hoping to go and support them.

Drew, I will always remember you for the top bloke that you were and I will miss you dearly.
