Costa Concordia Captain finally found guilty and sentenced

So finally the Captain of the Concordia Francesco Schettino had been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 16 years.

He was in fact given ten years for manslaughter, five for causing a shipwreck, one for abandoning ship and a further month for giving false information to port authorities.

So what no, is that it ?  Is he off to jail, nope.  Due to the Italian legal system he is allowed to be completely free at the moment as he is entitled to two legal appeals which could take years to process and mean that he is never jailed at all.

I personally can’t believe this situation, the incident happened in 2012 and even though he has been found guilty he can just walk around as a free man just because of the fact that although a court has found him guilty he doesn’t agree and want to go to prison.

There are times when I think the UK legal system is silly but this is something else !

I hope that he does the time for the crime.
