Viking Welcome a New Ship and New Godmother

June 30, 2015

It was only a month ago the Viking Star was christened in Norway and now Viking have yet another reason to celebrate with the successful float out of their next ocean vessel, the Viking Sea.

Viking Sea was floated out at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard – though as you can see there’s still some construction to be done! The ship will be in service in early 2016, while Viking Sky – the next step in Viking’s plot to rule the waves – is already in construction in the shipyard and should be ready for debut in 2017.

Torstein Hagen, founder and chairman of Viking Cruises, feels as if he’s had a new addition to the family;

“The day that a new ship first touches water is always a special day, and today is indeed a proud one for our Viking family. Having just celebrated the launch of our first ocean cruise ship, we are pleased at the positive reviews she is receiving from our guests and travel industry partners. We have no doubt that her sister ship, Viking Sea, will be met with the same reception upon her debut next spring.”

The float out is a clear sign of the progress that’s being made with Viking Sea, with construction now moving into its final stages.

Viking Ocean Cruises also announced that the company’s senior vice president of product Karine Hagen will become the godmother to Viking Sea during the christening ceremony in early 2016. Karine made a statement in anticipation of the event;

Viking Sea is a magnificent ship, and I am very honored to be her godmother. It has been a great pleasure to meet so many of the Fincantieri Ancona shipyard staff today, and share the pride in their work.

Viking Sea will launch in 2016, followed by Viking Sky in 2017 but if you want to get the Viking experience straight away you can ask about Viking right now!
