The Cruising World Says Happy Birthday To The Queen!

April 21, 2016

Today marks the 90th birthday of the Queen, so we decided to take a look back at her involvement with the cruise industry!

The Queen has been part of the cruising world for many and has christened many ships over her life time.

During her reign she has been an extremely active traveller and her total travel miles equate to 42 journeys around the globe – although she doesn’t have a passport!

Cunard have now released a rare set of photos of the Queen to celebrate her birthday and her involvement with their ships.

The Queen launched the Caronia in 1947, was present at the launch of the Queen Elizabeth in 1938 and named the QE2 in 1967.

She has most recently christened the Britannia, P&O’s newest flag ship.

Cunard staff also gathered on the deck of the Queen Elizabeth to wish her a very happy birthday! She was last on-board Cunard when she joined them in 1990 to celebrate Cunard’s 150th birthday.

However, the Queen is also not the only member of the royal family who has become involved with cruising as the Duchess of Cambridge recently became godmother to the Royal Princess.

The royal celebrations are set to continue throughout the day and she has so far spent the day meeting well-wishers on a walkabout through the streets nearby Windsor Castle.

The Queen has currently visited 128 countries around the world and the number only looks set to grow. Here in the office we certainly hope her next trip is a cruise…
