Good News for Solo and Family Cruisers

Good News for Solo and Family Cruisers

The much-anticipated new Holland America ship will boast both family and single rooms onboard.

These custom-built rooms on ms Koningsdam will tap into the growing solo cruiser market, as well as those wanting to go away as a family.

What’s more, the stateroom categories that are already available will be expanded, with passengers having a greater range of sizes and configurations to choose from.

The ship will have 32 family staterooms that are between 222 and 231 sq ft. Boasting ocean views, they will be on Deck 1 and have two lower beds that convert into a queen, a sofa bed that sleeps two and an upper berth. These family rooms will have two bathrooms – one with a bath, shower, sink and toilet, while the other has a shower and a sink.

The single staterooms are going to range from 127 to 172 sq ft and will feature a double bed and bathroom. It’s believed these 12 rooms will be on many different decks throughout the ship.

In addition, the vessel will offer 912 staterooms with verandahs, which is the most ever on a Holland America ship.

The Grand Pinnacle Suite on-board is a huge 1,290 sq ft and has a bedroom, living room, dining area, dressing room and private verandah with a whirlpool.

There will also be two Neptune Spa Suites, 43 Neptune Suites that are up to 855 sq ft, while the ship has 14 Signature Suites and 104 Vista Suites.

Executive vice-president of sales, marketing and guest programmes Richard Meadows said: “A cruise is one of the most popular ways to travel as a family, and we continue to welcome more multi-generational groups each year. To help us better serve families, we are pleased to be able to offer these tailored staterooms on ms Koningsdam. And the new one-person staterooms enable us to serve the growing market of solo travellers.”

In regards to the design of the rooms, they will have a colour palette that “takes advantage of texture and quiet colour combinations to achieve a feeling of serenity and luxuriousness in each category”.

There has been a lot of noise made in the industry about ms Koningsdam and the 2,560-passenger vessel will start sailing around the world in 2016, once it has been made by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. Bookings will start from December this year.

Are you excited about ms Koningsdam? Do you think there’s a need for purpose-built single rooms?
