Cunard Reveal The QM2’s Luxury Upgrade!

April 5, 2016

Cunard have long held the title of the grandest ships at sea, and what could be more luxurious than a complete luxury refurb?

We took a peak at the QM2 and the images and videos of her refurbishment to find out exactly how she is being changed, and what to expect when the upgrade is revealed in June this year!

To start with, Cunard have remastered lots of the public areas on-board. As we reported here, Cunard had said: “Queen Mary 2 is an icon in the world of luxury ocean travel.  A ship that turns heads everywhere she goes, she is the pride of the Cunard fleet and we are committed to ensuring her reputation grows ever stronger.

“These enhancements are just the beginning of an exciting revitalisation for Queen Mary 2”

So what do these changes actually look like?

Verandah Remastered

It’s been exactly 80 years since the first Cunard Verandah Grill went to sea on the Queen Mary in 1936 and in June this year The Verandah concept returns on the Queen Mary 2 with the design inspired by the elements of the original version. This light, elegant space offers exquisite attention to every detail and will give you contemporary, premium French cuisine with lunch and dinner. It looks like you’ll be guaranteed a memorable night with the fantastic service, not to mention it features a bar for pre and post meal drinks (we think that’s where we’ll be!)

Kings Court Remastered

Kings Court will undergo a makeover with a new and more relaxed self-service experience for its passengers in the form of an open, intuitive central buffet area. The new informal ambiance will sit alongside the variety of cuisine available on a rotating basis: Indian, Italian, Pan Asian and Tex Mex. The bright, fresh finish will give you a refreshing feel with art deco inspired chandeliers, dramatic artworks, sophisticated interiors and the use of mirrors to accentuate the ocean views (we like the sound of that!)

Carinthia Lounge Remastered

QM2’s Winter Garden will be transformed into a refined, airy and versatile new venue in the form of the Carinthia Lounge. It will be named after Cunard’s popular Carinthia ships and will serve breakfast, lunch, speciality tea’s and coffee’s and special champagne afternoon tea through the day. This new elegant evening venue will specialise in premium wines and relaxed entertainment; the perfect chic lounge to unwind and relax to some night-time entertainment (sounds pretty fancy to us!)

The staterooms have all had an upgrade too…

Britannia Staterooms

Expect sophistication and contemporary new designs inspired by Cunard’s rich history after the Britannia staterooms’ refurbishment;  half of the balcony staterooms will undergo their new look over a 25-dry dock refit in Hamburg’s Blohm+Voss shipyard. With a carefully phased refurbishment plan in 2017, a high number of the staterooms will feature an elegant new interior that reference designs from the original Queen Mary and bold furnishings with imperial blue and antiqued gold highlights to honour Cunard’s art deco heritage (we just love a blast from the past!)

Princess Grill Restaurant Render

And the luxurious Grills have had an even bigger upgrade! The Queen’s Grill restaurant will also have a facelift with its new designs and reconfiguration to maximise space. You’ll find subtle references to Cunard’s unrivalled heritage in the carpet and furnishings (are you as excited as us to walk around and figure them out?). The grills will each display a distinctive character and feature more intimate tables for your date nights with increased space between tables for privacy. The dining rooms will show you rich and updated décor and expect some new culinary options anchored by Cunard’s signature White Star Service.

Did you know? The refurb doesn’t end there as the last thing to be upgraded will be the kennels! Yep, you heard that right, the kennels on-board will have an additional ten (because apparently the existing ones are in heavy demand!)
