Cruise Line To Debut New Ship Just For Alaska

It has just been announced that Norwegian Cruise Line will once again pioneer a new era of Alaska cruising. The company announced its next new vessel, Norwegian Bliss, will be the first custom-built ship designed specifically for the ultimate Alaska cruise experience.

The news was announced at a ceremony at the Port of Seattle by Norwegian president and CEO, Andy Stuart: ‘Norwegian was the first cruise line to begin cruising to Alaska from Seattle in 2000 and it’s only fitting that we bring our newest ship, Norwegian Bliss, directly to this incredible location.’

Norwegian Bliss is the third in the line’s Breakaway-Plus class and is designed with features and amenities to offer the guests the ultimate Alaska cruising experience. It’ll weigh approximately 167,800 gross tons, hold a capacity of 4,000 guests and will be constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

Stuart continued: ‘Alaska is one of the top destinations for our guests to explore and we are thrilled to be the first cruise line to offer our guests the opportunity to experience this coveted destination aboard a brand new, state-of-the-art cruise ship custom designed for Alaska, the first of its kind to ever debut in Seattle.’

Norwegian Bliss is scheduled for delivery in Spring 2018 and will sail weekly 7-day Alaska cruises each Saturday from pier 60 in Seattle. It will offer guests the premier way to see America’s last frontier, whilst providing all of the innovative features, entertainment, signature dining and onboard experiences NCL is known for around the globe. The itinerary will include calls to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway & Victoria, British Columbia, along with some scenic glacier cruising.

Additionally, NCL is continuing on with its tradition of decorating each ship’s hull with signature art. The world’s premier marine life artist, Wyland, will be designing the hull artwork for Norwegian Bliss. The artist has inspired generations to be passionate about the importance of marine life conservation and is known for his iconic whale murals, marine life paintings and sculptures. His engaging design for the line’s latest ship will be revealed later this month.

In order to enhance the overall guest experience for cruises from Seattle, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCL’s parent company) have entered a groundbreaking 15-year agreement with the Port of Seattle. The collective investment of $30 million will upgrade the Pier facilities by expanding the guest check-in space by 300% and adding two new elevated passenger boarding bridges for comfortable boarding.

CEO of the Port of Seattle, Ted Fick, stated: ‘The Port of Seattle is proud to partner with Norwegian Cruise Line as we work to bring people from around the world to see the great Pacific Northwest from Seattle to Alaska’.

Norwegian Bliss will be available for reservations in January 2017 with more details on the ship’s accommodation, dining and onboard offerings, including interactive experiences, being revealed in the coming months.
