Carnival Cruise Lines’ long-standing partnership with the Port of New Orleans is set to continue for a further five years, thanks to a new deal inked yesterday (July 9th).
The agreement, which supersedes a three-year extension granted in 2013, will guarantee that no fewer than two Dream or Fantasy-class Carnival ships depart from the port every year until 2022.
In a press release, the cruise line’s chief executive Gerry Cahill said it was looking forward to continuing its New Orleans programme “for many years to come”.
Mark Romig, chief executive of the Louisiana city’s Tourism Marketing Corporation, also hailed the agreement: “Taking a cruise from New Orleans means a vacation both here and abroad,” he commented.
Carnival currently operates two year-round cruise ships from the port’s Erato Street terminal, which was renovated specifically to accommodate the demands of the 3,600-passenger Carnival Dream.
Together with the Carnival Elation, the vessel serves the eastern and western Caribbean and Mexico from New Orleans, carrying more than 400,000 passengers every year.
