Breaking News: Royal Caribbean Sells Popular Ship To Marella Cruises

It has just been announced that Royal Caribbean are selling Legend of the Seas to Marella Cruises.

The ship will join Marella’s fleet and be known as the Marella Discovery 2.

She will become part of Marella’s fleet in March 2017 and be home to 1,832 guests and 726 crew.

At the moment, Legend of the Seas has 915 cabins of which 40% are balconies. There is an outdoor poolside movie screen, a rock climbing wall, mini golf course, an outdoor pool as well as an indoor pool and spa.

The ship will be all inclusive and offer eight bars as well as a range of restaurants. The 69,130 gross ton vessel will be a sister ship to the new TUI discovery.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean explained the move: “Since its inaugural sailing, Legend of the Seas has created many wonderful memories for hundreds of thousands of guests, and we expect this successful history to continue as she transitions to Marella Cruises.”

The last ship that Marella acquired, the Marella discovery, was also one of Royal Caribbean’s ships and was previously known as Splendour of the Seas.

The managing director of Marella Cruises, Helen Caron, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Marella Discovery 2 to our growing fleet in 2017.  This new ship will offer something for everyone, helping to attract a broad and new customer base.  At the same time, we will ensure our cruise holidays maintain their friendly intimate feel, delivered by the friendliest crew at sea, not forgetting the focus we place on sailing to unique destinations that Marella Cruises are well known for.”

The executive director David Burling added: “The introduction of ‘Marella Discovery 2’ in May 2017 will accelerate our transformation programme for Marella Cruises. We are moving quickly to renew our fleet.”
