Stop do not enter

Greetings Cruisers

Me again, yep it’s been 2 weeks since my last post and so much has cropped up that I feel the need to share some important information regarding visa’s.

Yep these little stickers that fit in your passport to allow you to enter certain countries. Today I would like to discuss the American and Canadian visa requirements, there seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding these. So I will try to clear this up as simply as possible. The information is for British passport holders only

So let’s have a go and see how I get on.

American ESTA

  1. You must hold a 10 year chipped passport
  2. It must have at least 6 months validity from the date you return to the UK
  3. It is valid for 2 years and can be used as many times within this period
  4. You do not need to update this visa at any time, you can keep travelling on it as long as it is valid for length of travel
  5. You must have one even if you are only transiting through a US gateway and do not plan to actually enter the US
  6. Even if you are entering by ship, and you don’t plan to get off , you still need to have one

Canadian ETA

  1. You must hold a 10 year chipped passport
  2. It must have at least 6 months validity from the date you return to the UK
  3. It is valid for 5 years and can be used as many times within this period
  4. You do not need to update this visa at any time, you can keep travelling on it as long as it is valid for length of travel
  5. If you are planning to enter Canada by air, you must have this visa
  6. If you are planing to enter by sea (cruise) or land you do not need one

There you go, I hope that has cleared things up a little, on another note both these visas can be obtained online at both embassy’s for a nominal cost.

Well have a great couple of weeks and keep on cruising
