Top tips for new cruisers.

First time cruising can be a little daunting, especially when you are not sure of which cruise line to go on.  I have heard of many people who are lead by the destinations rather than the cruise line.  Now if you want to go to certain destinations then do your homework.

There are many ships which visit the same destinations.  However the age range of the passengers and the activities on board do vary quite a bit between these cruise lines.  Always check the company first.  You could be mid 30’s and booking yourselves on a ship which caters for mid 60’s.

Choosing your room.  Now this really depends on the destinations.  If you are going to Alaska then a room with a view is better as there is so much to see there.  Many other destinations you would only require an inside cabin.  There are a lot of viewing points on the ships so you will not miss out.  By all means look at the price of a balcony but it is usually half as much again for this room.

Check your documents using the Online check in or cruise personalizer web page with the cruise line you are sailing with.  Remember many cruise lines require middle names for passengers now.  Sometimes the cruise lines will not issue tickets until they have this information.

Keep your documents in your hand luggage.  If you are on a fly cruise your luggage will be delivered to your room straight from the transfer.  If you have packed anything you need in there it is a real mission to retrieve it.

Be patient. Barging through the cruise terminal, it’s easy to feel like you’re part of a huge herd of cattle. There’s just no easy way to get 3,000 people, with carry-on luggage, through one or two doors when boarding a ship. But you can be assured that the cruise line wants your business, so they will be sure to get you aboard. Everyone will get aboard before the ship leaves, so there’s no sense in ruffling anyone’s feathers, or ruffling your own.
