Are obstructed view worth the money?

I have just returned from a fantastic little voyage on Fred Olsen Boudicca.  The ship is an old build ship and was built in 1973 and was called the Royal Viking Sky for the Royal Viking cruise company. In 2005 the ship was sold to Fred Olsen cruise lines.

You would not know that she is over 40 years old as Fred Olsen have maintained her extremely well.  The clientele who are linked with Fred Olsen are generally over 60 years old, this is because the ship does not have the huge swimming pools, rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks that many of the larger ship have with other cruise lines.

Fred Olsen are a traditional cruise line and their ships are small so the ships can get into the lease accessible ports that these bigger ships cannot.  The Captains on Fred Olsen have a vast wealth of knowledge especially in the waters of Norway.  Quite often the Captains visit ports which are not on the original itinerary.

Now this is the reason for this blog.  Many of the balconies on Boudicca have obstructed view. The cabin I was in was in was a balcony Suite number 8002.  It states that this cabin has 33% obstruction.  The Balcony was huge and yes if you stood to the left of the balcony you would have a speed life boat in front of you. However if you stood to the right of the balcony you had a very good view.

So if you decide to go on a ship and have an obstructed view balcony and the cruise line tells you how much of a % of an obstruction is, you might be happy with your view.
