Adonia to do Volunteer work

P & O have announced that their ship the Adonia will finish serving the British public from Southampton in March 2016.  She is being re deployed to Miami where she will sail to Amber cove in the Dominican Republic on a weekly basis to help transporting passengers to undergo volunteer work on the Caribbean Island.

The ship will be branded as ‘Fathom’ and will be the worlds first voluntarism cruise ship and the passengers will take part in volunteer project and activities. She will go into dry dock and re branded and once this is done she will no longer be adults only and children from the age of eight will be able to travel on her and help with the volunteer work.

‘Its primary aim is to allow travelers interested in People to People tourism to have a chance to help local communities abroad. The voyages have been designed to appeal to the American market but of course all nationalities are welcome on board if they choose this travel experience’.

What do you think about this? If you were with limited means and a cruise ship turned up to your home and the passengers disembarked and offered their help would you accept it?

the mind boggles to how this has arrived.  It is a brand new concept to me and I am skeptical, mind you humanitarian help is needed all around the world, so I guess once the Dominican Republic has been saved then the ship will re deploy to other ares of the world?
