A Splendour of a ship

As you can see I have just returned from a weeks holiday on the Splendour of the Seas. We cruised around the Greek islands and Dubrovnik and visited Kusadasi in Turkey.

I booked the flights with Royal Caribbean so that included the transfers to the ship. As we flew from Birmingham we had indirect flights via Paris. The flight times were perfect and no stress transferring planes.

On arrival to Venice there were a chain of RCCL representatives to guide us to our coach transfer (so we didn’t get lost)! Transfer time was about 25 mins however you could get an independent water taxi from the airport to the port about 100 Euros I heard or a standard taxi about 40 Euros or $70 depending on how you paid.

Embarkation was very smooth as I had already added my details online. All they required was to swipe my credit card for my onboard account.

Staff very friendly and accommodating. Our stateroom attendant announced himself to us and explained when he was available for any questions.
The ship is one of the older Royal Caribbean ships however she has been maintained very well.

The Top Hat lounge is one of the areas where certain entertainment is held such as salsa dancing, adult quiz’s and kareoke.

The Casino is where I lost my money!!  They also do poker tournaments to win money and cruises.

The 42nd Street Theatre where fantastic shows are staged.  There are also guest singers and comedians or magicians on different nights.  This is standard with all Royal Caribbean cruises.

At the poolside (weather permitting) they did cook outs either BBQ’s or as you can see a paella cooked fresh.  Be quick though as it is excellent food.

There are also pool activities such as belly flop competitions.

The pool did get very crowded however there were plenty of deck chairs around the pool deck and deck 10 above. There is a running track and 4 times around the ship = 1 mile.  At the Aft of the ship there is a mini golf course and a rock climbing wall for the more adventurous cruiser.

The Splendour is a great ship and I would cruise on her again. The staff were very friendly, I felt relaxed and the standard of food was excellent.  The only small point to make a remark on was the pool was a little too small, but hey apaet from that i was very pleased with her (and i’m very picky too).
