I’m Loving The Viking’s!

Lately I have been hooked on the Viking series which I got for Christmas. It’s not as good as the Walking Dead or Game Of Thrones, but is smashing if you like that sort of thing! It has also given me the “travel bug” to go back to the Baltic, Sweden in particular. Baltic cruising has really taken off this year, with alot of people choosing to visit rather than go on the usual Med cruise. I cant say I blame them.

Funny enough I have not yet experienced a Baltic cruise but have done the Fjords and visited quite a lot of the Baltic destinations.  One of my all time favourite cities is Stockholm. If you have not been before I urge you to visit.  Stockholm has to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, maybe even in the world. The city is built on 14 bridge -linked islands where the Baltic sea meets Lake Malaren. For me the best part is the old town which is right in the heart of the city. It is one of the best preserved medieval centres and fabulous to have a wander around. To be honest with you the city of Stockholm is really easy to walk around anyway and it has lovely parks by the waterside if you wanted to rest.

If you are already booked on a Baltic cruise which stops off in Stockholm, I would recommend the following excursions.  The old town as I mentioned earlier would be top of my list, then a city tour which you can do yourself on the hop on and hop off buses.  There is the palace and a royal canal tour which are worth it and then you could if you have time visit the many bars in the city (but watch out it is expensive!).  If you did want to see a bit more of Sweden, look out for any of the Archipelago tours, they really are worth it.

Finally, if you travel to Sweden in the summer, remember it hardly gets dark. If you go in winter you could perhaps, (if your lucky) see the Northern Lights.

I would love to hear what you thought of the “lands of the Vikings!”

Till next time x
