Calling Nature Lovers

There are a lot of you out there who are great nature enthusiast’s who love to go away on a cruise but also enjoy their hobby of either bird watching, or seeing wildlife in their natural environment. Mr & Mrs C, lovely clients of mine come into this category and as promised here is a little taster of what there is around.

If you do not want to sail too far away from home then Fred Olsen have a lovely cruise on the Boudicca. Sailing from Liverpool on the 21st July. The ship travels up to northern Scotland and also passes by the lovely Farne Islands where you hopefully get a chance to see puffin colonies, not forgetting the lovely Northumberland coast, can you see how biased I am!

Let’s move a bit further from home.  Travel to Alaska, boy you are going to see some great wildlife there. From whales, bears, eagles and moose. I think Princess and Holland America have some smashing itineraries to choose from. When you get out on a excursion you can see sea lions and seals from custom built safari vessel’s which would be fun, I think! (depending on how sea sick I felt of course).

Let’s travel to the Galapagos Islands which has an abundance of wildlife from red crabs, iguanas, reef sharks, giant tortoises, flamingos, Pacific green sea turtles etc! Home of course to where Darwin formed his theory of evolution, I am told these islands are simply wonderful. Have a look at Celebrity cruises as they have three ships circling the islands.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to visit South Africa and do a 4 day safari as part of the trip. It was fantastic!  Nice to see that you can do a cruise and combine a safari too. We have a great Tailor made tour with Cunard sailing from Southampton to Melbourne in January of next year which covers a lovely days safari. Okay not a 4 day like I did, however you would be surprised at what you can see. You can travel with AMA waterways on a Discover Africa cruise if you wanted to have a bit more as the tour includes a 4 night river cruise on the Chobe river.

Finally it would not be right if I did not include Hurtigruten cruises. They travel right up to the Svalbard archipelago which is roughly halfway between Norway and the North Pole. Here you will see seals, the Arctic fox, walrus, reindeer and polar bears!

If you are a Bill Oddie bird person or just like Mr & Mrs C, perhaps it is time to check these out!

Till next time x
