A Viking Alternative

When you are thinking of booking a cruise do you automatically go for the cruise line you have sailed with before or someone else? Of course with so many good offers around I guess you look at who does offer what at the time. Recently some lovely clients of mine have returned from a Viking Ocean cruise and loved them so much they have booked 2 more. Perhaps Viking is something you would put with a river cruise and not a ocean cruise? If that is the case, then I would put them on your radar.

The Viking range of ships only take approx 930 guests on board. Ships that are smaller do of course have the advantage of travelling to ports which the big ships can not get to, and the itineraries do reflect this. For me though the beauty of a smaller ship is the space you get on board. WB and PW, travelled on the Viking Star and loved the features one of which was underfloor heating in the bathroom. They also were really pleased with the added extras they had.  Viking have included what the river ships have, for example complimentary wine and beer at lunch and dinner, most specialty restaurants, and Wi-Fi is free and unlimited. There is also the Nordic Spa which boasts a thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a sauna, heated ceramic lounge chairs and a cold plunge pool, as well as the first “snow grotto” at sea. Also included is one included shore excursion in every port of call, other included beverages, such as specialty coffees, teas and bottled water, Port taxes and fees, 24-hour room service & alternate restaurant dining and Self-service laundry.

The cabins I am told were really fab, food excellent, bar and lounges really lovely. The downside if there are any is no casino on board and the evening entertainment may not be to everyone’s taste. Would that bother me? Nope, if I want a good ship with smashing facilities, good food and taking me to some port I had not been too then I think that is a small price to pay.

Next time your in that planning stage don’t forget Viking Ocean Cruises, I think you will be impressed.

Till next time x
