Brief Moments In Bruges

Day two of my trip on Ventura and once our conference had come to an end, we had the option to visit Bruges, a place I had never been to before and was very much looking forward  to visit.

We boarded our coach ready for the journey to Bruges. This took around 20 minutes or so then we were off  to explore.

I loved the feel of the place. It is such a pretty city to be in with cobbled stoned streets and medieval buildings.  A popular way to getting around is by Horse and cart. I had to move extremely quickly on many occasions to get out of the way when walking around town! Cycling or boat trips are other great ways to explore however we decided to walk.

The Market square had an amazing atmosphere which was buzzing with people, music and restaurants. This seemed to be the heart of Bruges. There was a parade of some sort taking place , with bands playing whilst marching through the cobbled streets. It was really lovely to watch. The Market Square is surrounded by Historical Landmarks including The Belfry and Cloth Hall and Provincial Palace. You are able to climb the 366 steps of the Belfry Tower and we were told the views from the top were amazing. Due to lack of time and energy, we decided to give that one a miss!

No visit to Bruges would be complete without a stop  for souvenirs and of course it had to be chocolate. The choice was endless, with Halloween just around the corner the selection of masks, pumpkins, witches and ghosts were unbelievable, I was amazed at the skill used to create such wonderful pieces of chocolate.

With so limited time, we need to head back to our meeting point  ready for the transfer back to the port. I loved my brief moments in Bruges and will differently return again to explore this fairy tale city a lot more.

There are many excursions you can book to make the most of your time in Bruges. for example P&O offered:-

  • Bruges in a Day
  • Bruges and Belgian Beer
  • A Taste of Bruges
  • Bruges On Your Own

Until next time, bye for now x
