P&O, Cunard & Princess ‘cruise’ with the times…

Fantastic news this week has revealed that the cruise lines P&O , Cunard & Princess who are all part of the Carnival Corporation will offer same sex marriages at sea.

It is a real turning point for P&O making them the first cruise line in the UK to offer same sex weddings at sea. The first wedding will be held in the Caribbean next January.

P&O Cruises’ Wedding at Sea package costs from £1,200 and includes the ceremony, flowers, photographer, Champagne, and – most importantly – an extra 5 kg luggage allowance per couple on fly-cruise holidays. The Ceremonies will be conducted by the Captain or deputy and the marriage license issued in Bermuda.

Cunard will also conduct same sex weddings at sea from November 2018.

A Cunard wedding package costs from (£2,570) on Queen Mary 2, (£2,115) on Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth.

Princess cruises also within the Carnival group will also offer the weddings at sea but no dates have been confirmed.

At the start of this year a ruling legalised same sex marriages in Bermuda and the ships that are registered in Bermuda will be able to offer this special celebration.

P&O have all but one of their ships registered in Bermuda (apart from Britannia she is  registered in London)

Cunard’s three ships are all registered in Bermuda.  Princess has its 13 ships registered in Bermuda and has confirmed they will be announcing dates soon.

It has been more than three years since Britain legalised same sex marriages and now the ruling by the government in Bermuda has opened up more doors for freedom of choice.

Personally I believe it is a step in the right direction and I am excited to watch how successful it will be for the Cruise lines.
