HAPPY NEW YORK – PART 2

Our Fabulous New Years New York  Celebrations, were made memorable by great food , even better red wine ! A Ballet Dancer and Burlesque styled ladies that graciously walked around the tables and at the stroke of midnight we all stood up and sang at the top of our voices,  Frank Sinatra’s ‘NEW YORK, NEW YORK’,  at the hip and trendy restaurant named the TESSA NYC,  it is well worth a visit and a place I will definitely be returning to when I visit New York again.

The manager Patrick whom I had only dealt with by email a few weeks prior,  welcomed us like we were old friends and the hospitality during the evening was fantastic.

We left at about 1.30 am and made our way back to Times Square, it was the weirdest atmosphere after all the preparation and thousands of people, all the crowds had gone and there was only the staff who were starting their long night of clean up !!

1st of January 2018 – Starting the day after breakfast we made our way to the financial district. We were visiting the sight of Ground Zero, it was a humbling experience viewing the two magnificent pools that are the memorials dedicated to where the Twin Towers once stood. We also visited the One World Observatory which is located on floors 100-102 of One World Trade Center, with exhibits & restaurants. It gives you the chance to view New York like never before , even though we had been to the Empire State Building , it had been to cold to completely enjoy, but the One World Observatory enables you to have a perfect view of the whole city. (and the lift you take to get to those high floors is an exciting experience)

Next to the Memorial pools is the 9/11 Museum , it costs $24 per adult and it is a place that touches your heart whether you remember that day or not. My 17 year old son was fascinated and the Museum stands next to the foundations of the trade centre (see above photo). The Museum not only takes you back to that sad and still unbelievable day but it is a great respect to those who lost their lives and others that were involved. A long day but one that was thoroughly worth it for the memories I have taken from it.

Making our way back today we had stopped on route at Grand Central Station, if you are visiting New York it is worth stopping by. Its great to see , its busy with tourists and makes you think of the films you have seen … not forgetting in between the picture taking and guided tours ,  this is a station where locals are just going about their daily life !! Of Course after all that walking a little red wine pit stop (just to warm our cockles) was needed ! Another great place to see at this time of year is of course at the Rockefeller Center with the fantastic Christmas tree and Ice Rink… I am afraid it was way too cold for any of us to brave skating , however with the amount of layers we were wearing , we would have been more than cushioned for a fall !!

So now its just over 3 weeks on from our return from New York and even though the cold was literally breath-taking, I miss the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple and the excitement you feel when you are there. Already saving for the next adventure (although next time I may have to go somewhere a little warmer!)
