Royal Excalibur!!

No more check-in lines? New Royal Caribbean Excalibur App lets you walk right onto ship!

Royal Caribbean this week showed off a new smartphone app that will let customers complete the check-in process before arriving at a ship.

Upon arrival, cruisers then will be able to walk right on the vessel without stopping at a desk, as long as they have their phone in a pocket. The app will pair with a facial recognition system at the pier to verify their identity as they head to the gangway.

Cruisers will breeze through embarkation thanks to facial recognition technology from their pre-loaded photo, open their cabin doors without a key card and a luggage tracker will even monitor bags, sending an alert when they have arrived to the stateroom.

Once on board the app also will serve as a room key. As long as passengers are carrying their phone, their room doors will unlock as they approach them.

From the palm of your hand you can manage your shore excursions and dining reservations on board your Royal Caribbean ship.  This is great for when you are at the pool, breakfast table, or in your stateroom and have your family around to make a decision.  Open the app, select the option you want and you are all set to go!

Passengers will have the freedom to stream their own content on their stateroom television, and use their personal device to control the lighting, temperature and curtains (which can also be managed with a touchscreen panel in the room or by voice commands.)

Excalibur can even create a personal calendar of activities, send reminders and offer suggestions based on interests, allows passengers to learn about the hundreds of activities, movies, and shows available onboard, and use category filters to sort them to their preferences
You will be able to explore off-ship adventures during our port stops, choose from the complete restaurant, bar, and lounge options on board, plan a day of indulgence in the Spa and use deck plan illustrations to navigate the ship

It will be much easier to stay connected on board and also with those back home as there is no additional cost to use the texting feature in the app.

The new app will give cruisers video clips that vividly show experiences like shore excursions, dining and other activities, all of which can be reserved at home or from a deck chair poolside, .it can also be used to track your luggage, chat with friends and even an interactive Cruise Compass entry to your own personal calendar, so you never forget which events you wanted to check out.

Passengers can order drinks that will be delivered to wherever you are – the waiter has a photo of you that you took when you set up the app, so it is easy enough to track you down and deliver your drink wherever you are on the ship

The app will help crew provide better service by helping with guest preferences and remember items like birthdays and favourite drinks.

The app can be downloaded for free at Google play,  currently available on Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas, as it is expanded across the fleet new features will be added

What do you think about this new concept?
