Timothy disappointed in Ketchikan

Last Thursday I sat down at 8.30pm all excited that The Cruise was back on for a 3 part series showing the Star Princess in Alaska. In the first episode the ship was going to sail from Vancouver and go to the port of Ketchikan – great I thought as I am sailing from Vancouver in June on the Celebrity Infinity and Ketchikan is one of my ports of call so was hoping to pick up some tips of what to do.

Alas I was left disappointed as the programme only showed me Timothy and his colleague go fishing on a boat but nothing of the town itself. I already knew from having watched the Jane McDonald one last year that there is a lumberjack show and totem poles in Ketchikan but wanted to see if there was anything else.

So I have done a little of my own research and found that the ships tend to dock in the centre of town so there is not necessarily the need to do an excursion if none take your fancy. Ketchikan is known as the salmon capital of the world. Creek Street is and old neighbourhood and is a row of wooden buildings on wooden stilts over the water with shops and galleries to look in.  Other things to do in Ketchikan is kayak or float plane to the Misty Fjords or to go hiking up Deer Mountain. The lumberjack show is beside the pier and in City park is where I will find the Totem poles and a Hatchery.

Does anyone else think Timothy has just moved ships so he can star in the TV show again? I am hoping the next 2 episodes show a bit more as I am also visiting Juneau on my cruise (which will be shown in the 3rd episode) and am contemplating to take a whale watching and Medenhall Glacier excursion or to try to DIY it myself.

What did you think of the new series?

Have a great couple of weeks

Kerry
