Game of thrones here I am !!!!

Well , Game of Thrones fans , I for one am not waiting until 2019 to revisit the wonder series that is ”Game of Thrones”. When you read this I will hopefully be on my way back into Malta , were some of the first scenes for the epic series was filmed.

Then its off to Dubrovnik to walk the walls were those fabulous actors and actresses filmed Kings landing , Quarth and Slavers bay. I am so excited. My husband and I have booked ourselves on the Split Game of thrones tour with P and O as well, so this cruise is going to be amazing.

According to Executive Producer David Benioff, “The minute we started walking around the city walls we knew that was it. You read the descriptions in the book and you come to Dubrovnik and that’s what the actual city is. It has the sparkling sea, sun and beautiful architecture.” He also said, “the first time we saw Dubrovnik, I was in shock, because the whole city really looked the way we pictured King’s Landing looking.”

The City Walls of Dubrovnik are the key to a lot of the filming for the series up until series 5. The famed medieval walls of Dubrovnik enclose the Old City, and are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The massive stone walls are located directly on the coast, similar to descriptions of King’s Landing in the novels. They have featured in numerous episode since production moved to Croatia in Season 2 . One notable appearance of the walls is in the Season 3 premiere ”Valar dolaris when Tyrion, Bronn, and Podrick take an extensive walk along the walls, and pass by workers repairing the damage from the recent Battle of Blackwater.

The Purple wedding (in which Joffrey dies was filmed in a park just near the old town of Dubrovnik , while the walk of atonement Cersei does is filmed in the streets of Dubrovnik.

Many scenes up to season 5 were filmed in and around the area. So as an avide fan , I am hoping for lots of memories from this cruise. I will of course share pictures when I return, so look out for the next instalment.

Do you fancy following in the footsteps of the kings and queens of Westeros ??, if so check out the cruises that include Dubrovnik, Split Malta or even if you truly don’t mind the Winter , why not visit Belfast on one of our round UK cruises and check out the film sets there.
