Norwegian Joy …calling at Southampton

The Norwegian Joy is the second  of 3 Breakaway – Plus class ships to be launched and she is  due  to debut this summer. She is being built exclusively for the Chinese market and will be based in China. However NCL have promised to bring her to Southampton first and whilst details are still sketchy there are rumours thus week that she will overnight in port on the 3rd May 2017.

The ship is a sister ship of the Norwegian Escape and is a large ship at 167,400 gt with 2200 cabins. She will carry up to 4400 passengers and will have  the bright and innovative features that NCL are known for. I personally love NCL for the massive choice of dining options that they provide and the Norwegian Joy will offer a choice of 11 complimentary dining venues including O’Sheehan’s Neighbourhood Bar and Grill, Shanghai’s Noodle Bar, and the main restaurants Taste and Savor. There will then be several speciality restaurants to choose from, including the French Le Bistro and the Teppanyaki Restaurant

The ship is currently undergoing construction by Meyer Werft in Germany and will call at the UK as she makes her way to China. With all of their recent ship launches NCL have been keen to show off  their ship, they have put on a great event and sold cabins for just £99pp. I was lucky enough to see the NCL Escape for a night in October 2015 on such an event and it was an awesome day. We were able to board at lunchtime and  the facilities were all open. We were able to try out the high ropes course, the Joy will have the largest ropes course at sea, walk ‘The Plank’ which as it suggests is a hair- raising challenge taking you out over the sea and have fun in the arcade area. In May the weather should be better and maybe  you’ll even get a tan as you take on the challenges of  the waterpark.

If you prefer more sedate activities you’ll be able to enjoy one  of 24 draft beers or 50 bottled beers in the District Brew House or listen to live piano music over  pre-dinner cocktails in the Mixx Bar. In the evening on the Escape, dinner was served and we had a choice of restaurants followed by a choice of the theatre ,  comedy  in the Headliners Comedy Club or just dancing the night away.

NCL haven’t officially announced that they will be offering the same on the Norwegian Joy, however I would be  surprised if they didn’t.
As soon as I know more I’ll let you know – and if you’d  like me  to hold your details to book if she comes on sale just get in touch.
