A break from routine with the Gymnastics World Cup

This week I’m looking forward to a great night out at the Gymnastics World Cup which is being held at the Arena in Birmingham.

My son and  I pictured above are both keen gymnasts ( or at least I used to be) and it is not often that big sporting events come our way so when I heard about this, I jumped at the chance to get tickets. The full championships takes place in 4 venues around  the world with Japan hosting the final later in the year.

In Birmingham we will get to see 8 nations compete with Great Britain being able to provide 2 male and 2 female gymnasts as the host nation. Whilst I prefer watching women’s gymnastics, we are going to see the men’s event as my son wasn’t keen on watching the ladies.

The British guys are Olympic medalist Nile Wilson and European medalist James Hall, I would have loved to see Max Whitlock perform but alas he is taking a 6 month break and concentrating on the 2020 Olympics. The men compete on 6 apparatus the floor, vault, pommel horse, high bar, parallel bars and the rings and I am in awe of their strength.

I have booked ‘Gold’ tickets for the event and we are going with friends, however since booking Milo has broken his leg and we now have to see about accessible seating, where he can keep his leg raised as he is in a full length cast. I am hoping that this get will get us an even better view although I have been told we can no longer stay with our friends. I’m also secretly hoping that as he did it whilst doing a flip at his club, maybe he will be able to get  his cast signed by a World Cup gymnast or two. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
