When In Rome

So many cruise lines visit Rome and rightly so, it has so much to offer and oozes with history, I have visited a few times now both by Cruise Ship and also on a land holiday. If you are only there for the day on a cruise excursion the Ancient Rome Walking Tour is an excellent way to try and see as much as you can of the city & every cruise line will offer a similar package for you.

But what if you are deciding to visit for a weekend break  what would I recommend you see?

  • The Colosseum – My Jake loved it here learning about the Gladiators and getting dressed up, over the years it has had fires and suffered earthquake damage, it was rebuilt and used as a cemetery.
  • Palatine Hill – One of Rome’s Seven Hills and offers views of the Roman Forum and Circus Maximus where chariot races took place.
  • Roman Forum – Was the first marketplace and area of social activities.
  • Pantheon – A Roman Pegan temple dedicated to worship every god.
  • Trevi Fountain – -Trevi- means the meeting point of 3 roads. The largest and most famous Baroque fountain in Rome & stands 25.9 meters high, it gets really busy with tourists who throw coins in the fountain, head there early morning or late evening when it is lit up.
  • The Vatican – The smallest state in the world & head of the Roman Catholic Church. Filled with 11 museums inside the Vatican including Michelangelo’s restored Sistine Chapel. The basilica is open daily and is free to enter.

Who Cruises there – Well nearly everyone but I like NCL they have the Epic doing a 7 night voyage the Western Mediterranean and prices start from £809pp and is based on 2 people sharing a cabin. Flights and transfers we can arrange for you from various regional airports

Itinerary – Rome, Livorno/Pisa, Cannes, Marseille, Provence, Barcelona, Naples, and back to Rome.

Oh and who has the best food in the world? ITALY!
