Reposition And Its Benefits

For anyone who wants a good lengthy cruise, but don’t have a huge budget, a repositional cruise may be the answer. Often after a ship has spent it’s Spring and Summer in the Mediterranean it will transfer to the Caribbean for its Winter programme, where the weather is hot. The same is true of colder destinations too, which are enjoyable in the summer, frozen over in the winter.

Emerald Princess for example will spend this summer travelling from Seattle ( and other West Coast ports) to Alaska before it repostions to South America for the winter.

Cruise lines don’t like to sail without guests on board, given the costs of operating the ship, and will avoid it if possible, so this is an excellent way of making sure both of these situations are covered. They also contain usually extra on board activities and can often be snapped up very quickly as the prices are always really low, usually described as Transatlantic or Discovery.

Cunard operate Transatlantic sailings after finishing the World Cruises and run all through the year Eastbound and Westbound, are extremely popular and service guests with all sorts of situations such as wanting to get from the UK to work in USA or visit family for a long length of time or visa versa and lots of other variations. Flights from the UK to New York or again visa versa, and dont forget you can take your dog on board Queen Mary for your sailing.

Some cruise likes will pair the reposition with a standard cruise, for example Viking Cruises New York, Bermuda & The West Indies cruise, which finishes in Puerto Rico, from where the line runs is Caribbean sailing, it pushes up the price but in this case it creates an incredible itinerary.

Reposition cruises are also available with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruise, NCL, MSC they all have different sailings and not all of them will originate from the UK some will fly from European airports.
