Best & Worse But Who Would You Vote?

Are the glory days of airlines over in the dash to merge into one cramped, cheap service ? How much airlines have changed over the years also how to get the best deal on prices if you book your own flights. Important information especially if you are considering flying to and from your holiday – so who is good and who is not?

Best And Worst Airline for Punctuality

KLM – voted the best

Air Transat – voted the worst

How to get the best seat

Consult -Seatguru.com for seat pitch and width details. Its colour coded plans also show secret seats with extra space. For the best chance of sprawling across two seats, choose the less popular back of the plane.  If you cant get the seat you want, book the best available then check 24 hours before leaving. Airlines may hold groups of seats for families. Download the free seat alerts app.

Then vs Now

Your bruised knees and squashed elbows aren’t deceiving you. Airline seats have been shrinking. In 1949 you could expect a 40 inch seat pitch, but since the introduction of separate classes, cheaper seats have got a lot smaller. On BA & Virgin, you can expect a bone crushing 31 inches on long haul. On short haul and Thomson’s and Monarch you will be squeezed into 28 inches. Forget about leaning back too Monarch, Ryanair and Easyjet have all scrapped reclining seats.

In 1958 BOAC cabin crew transatlantic waited on around 80 passengers serving Madeira, Coffee and Cocktails, Lunch with smashing wines followed by afternoon tea with jam and scones and finally champagne and canapes all served from china, crystal and silver. Crikey!!

How things are different today ; Long security queues, cramped planes, frazzled staff and terrible food. Forget about anything free BA are swapping free food and drink on short haul flights for paid for M&S sandwiches and have  plans to squeeze more seats into its planes…..

So there you have it – Have you got any bad experiences or who would you vote as the best and the worst? let me know.
