Alexa is taking over MSC Bellissima !!!

MSC are introducing a cruise industry first by installing Amazon Alexa-style virtual assistants in every cabin on board Bellissima MSC’s newest ship which will be christened in Southampton in March 2019 and will sail its inaugural voyage from Southampton to Genoa.

For anyone who has been living under a rock and doesn’t know who this Alexa is then let me tell you about her…. she knows everything !!! there are a few different devices which are all controled by voice recognition, you can use commands and questions like Alexa what is the weather forecast for today, and depending which device you go for Alexa can control lights around your home.

Now your wondering what use is Alexa on a cruise ??? The technology will be able to answer “every request” from guests about onboard services and facilities in seven languages.

Questions you may want to ask could include…..

Alexa what time does the show begin this evening ?

Alexa what will the weather be like in tomorrows port ?

Alexa dim the lights please !!

Guests can activate the device, which will be round in shape and no bigger than 15cm, whenever they choose. They will also be required to sign a waiver to agree for their information to be stored as Guest data, such as which restaurants they like best, will be stored in a cloud system and used the next time they travel.

Now some people may think this is a step too far and may even say its just Lazy but i think its a fantastic idea, who doesn’t want their questions answered instantly !!! Technology is evolving rapidly and Alexa is only the beginning. I actually just ordered the Amazon Dot and cant wait to try it out, i wont even need to lift my mobile phone to make a phone call while in the room with Alexa, all i have to do is tell her who i want to call and she does it.

What do you think ???
