Book your cruise for just £1 per person!

That was the message. You may have received the text and email from us. Well bundles of you took advantage when the clock struck 12am Princess’s 24 hour £1 cruise deposit sale started.

As a cruise specialist cruise consultant, we didn’t get much notice on this one we were all told Princess Marketing have decided to allow its customers to book selective sailings with just a £1 deposit.

Now I don’t know if this has ever been done before but Princess are no stranger to firsts at Sea and their new to cruise market share is growing so quickly I think partly due to the massive success of their ITV Show the cruise which was back earlier this year for a second season.

Having recently launched a new ship The Majestic Princess I know the cruise line want everyone out there interested in cruising to book one of their cruises.

Is this a good or bad thing?

Well from a consumer customer perspective it can only be a good thing, let’s look at the benefits.

  • It allows you to book your dream cruise for just £1 per person deposit.

  • It Means you can book your cruise cabin before your boss or partner agrees for you to go.

  • It Means that you can keep your options open whilst you review your holiday plans for 2018 in more detail.

  • It Allows you to pick a cabin grade now and can upgrade to a better one without expensive administrative costs.

My Option: From Princess cruise line’s view…

It can only be an incredible marketing stunt. I know first-hand from conversations internally today that ourselves and Princess have been incredibly busy taking bookings for cruises on what is one of the hottest days of the year.

With more people looking up Princess itineraries and reading their reviews and understanding why they are a 5-star cruise line winning so many awards for their destination immersion programme.

From a company perspective, we are always excited to book more cruises, we also love to educate new customers about Princess cruise lines.

Where are the negatives in all of this?

Well is it possible that with just a £1 deposit and a 24-hour booking rule are people more likely to book a cruise that they do not want or have not fully thought through as a family?

Is this likely to become a growing trend in cruising or is this a marketing gimmick?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
