A cruise from Hell!

This week I spoke to a customer who had been looking forward to her first ever cruise for months.

I rushed to call her as soon as she disembarked the P&O vessel as I knew how momentus and important this trip was for her.

She’s was sailing with a group of friends celebrating a special birthday. She choose to upgrade to a balcony cabin as she suffers with claustrophobia a common condition where the mind can become paralysed by the fear of feeling enclosed.

She knew the trip could be a challenge but hoped a balcony would sort the issue and with many things planned for her on deck sea day adventures comfort zones were tested and off they went.

I was upset for her on her return as the feedback was considerably worse than expected.

The claustrophobia took over any chance of enjoying the cruise and in all honesty it resulted in panic attacks and many trips to the Dr’s for medication and to talk through some very difficult feelings.

She mentioned the on-board staff and Dr’s could not have been better and that there was nothing anyone could have done.

This got me wondering how many fears and phobias prevent you from cruising?

Fear of heights?

Fear of water?

Fear of feeling trapped?

Fear of meeting new people?

Fear of sailing alone through grief or loss of a loved one?

Fear of lots of crouds?

Fear of strictly come dancing? This one is a joke surly.

Is there any others you can think of?

I’m intrigued to know what’s prevented you and if you have pushed the boundaries of your mind how did it pan out for you?

Was it like my customer too much and did it make a lasting impression on your trip or did you overcome your fears and enjoy the experience?
