One Love Manchester

I was unsure about whether to write this blog due to the emotion I would feel writing it but then after much thought I wanted to share with you my experience of one of the most surreal nights when I attended The One Love Manchester concert on the 4th June!

As we know the whole purpose of this concert was to raise money for the victims and the injured of the most horrendous time 13 days before. I felt very lucky to have been able to get tickets to share what was I can only describe the most emotional and uplifting of nights.

My daughter was in the Arena on that fateful night and was so lucky to come home unhurt, but this blog isn’t to dwell on my daughters experience, it is to celebrate how the world can come together as one in the event of so much heartache.

I went with my son and his girlfriend and we had standing tickets, my daughter and her friends who gratefully received Free tickets were at the front of the Arena so although I wasn’t stood with her it was comforting to know I was only a few metres behind.

I live in Leeds so I wasn’t sure whether to drive but knowing the concert was a sell out and of course with the football event being held just a few hours earlier we agreed to get the direct train to Manchester Piccadilly.

I will be totally honest in saying I was anxious to say the least as I know many were, but once arriving in Manchester I really had no need to be. The police presence was huge and there were so many helpers directing all concert goers to the Tram station and also at Old Trafford directing us into the stadium. We arrived about 5pm and I have to say there was already a sense of this overwhelming feeling of love there. Never have I experienced how 50,000 people can come together and hug each other , chat together, sing together and with one common goal, to not only remember the people who lost their lives and those who were injured but also to have fun in the way the concert was intended for which the whole world joined in.

My daughter has been a fan of Ariana Grande for years and also attended her concert at Manchester Arena on the 4th June 2015, which she describes herself as one of the best nights of her life. I had heard very much about the pop star over the years as my daughters , I do say this lightly , obsession grew with the star. I guess I can now understand the obsession of this absolutely incredible person Ariana Grande .

The whole event was organised wonderfully , the atmosphere was electric and the whole Arena sang their hearts out united as one with one common goal and that was to pay our respects. It was emotional to say the least but being totally honest in that Arena all I saw was a united front and happy faces just grateful to be there and to be a part of it. It was only towards the end when Ariana sang One Last Time and Over The Rainbow that the tears then started to fall.

My son is 17 and never been to a concert and he loved the experience and at no point was there the feeling of not being safe. On the contrary we all said that we had never felt safer. As the concert ended it was then a mad rush to get the last train at piccadilly but that wasn’t before catching the tram first.  This is what happened on that tram journey back to Manchester train station and I think this perfectly sums up the night.

We visited St Anne’s square and laid 22 pink roses in memory for all of those who lost their lives that night.
