Not long to wait for the next Solar Eclipse……..

Unless you’ve been living in a cave you couldn’t have missed the news on Monday that the US was to experience a ‘Total Eclipse’ and who better to fly over and get involved……….welsh lady Bonnie Tyler! Anything for a freebie I say!!

The singer, 66, commemorated the rare eclipse in performing her 1983 ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart on Royal Caribbean’s Total Eclipse Cruise onboard Oasis of the Seas with DNCE, the band led by Joe Jonas.

To adapt to Monday’s eclipse, the track was cut down to 2 minutes and 40 seconds, the time of the phenomenon. A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, the perfect alignment of which causing complete darkness for a short amount of time.

The cruise, which left out of Orlando, Florida, was designed in a route to provide premium immersion in the natural event – as the Earth’s surface plunged into darkness – with stops in the Bahamas, St. Marteen and St. Thomas.

‘It’s hard to top a live performance by a musical legend on such a historic day,’ the cruise company’s CEO Michael Bayley said.

It’s proved to be a very good move as there has been so much interest that the song hit the top of iTunes chart amid the much-hyped natural sensation, knocking the summer anthem Despacito out of the top spot.  It’s a good song to be fair!

After a long 99 years, North America witnessed the rare astronomical phenomenon, seen from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, on Monday.

The UK was only getting a partial eclipse just before sunset on Monday but we will have to wait until September 23, 2090 for the next total solar eclipse. The last total solar eclipse in the UK was on August 1, 1999, over Cornwall and South Devon – but was for most observers almost completely blocked by clouds.

So if I do manage to reach the age of 114 I might get to experience this phenomenon or for something sooner there is an Annular Solar Eclipse happening in the Middle East/India in December 2019.  We’ve put together an amazing package for this with Azamara Club Cruises departing 14 December 2019 for 17 nights.
