What On Earth Is A Millennial?

What on earth is a Millennial? I don’t think it’s me!!!!

Gail Ryan

Is it a new specious of millipede found in the deepest and darkest place on earth?

Is it an antique over a thousand years old?

Who knows the answer?

I have been hearing this term banded around for a while now but to be honest have never taken the time or effort to find out what it means. But I was intrigued to find out more when I read that ” yet another cruise line was launching a series of sailings for millennial travelers in 2019 “

So what does it mean? Well, apparently if you  were born between the early 1980’s to the mid-1990’s, you,  are a millennial. This group of people was named ‘millennials’ as people realised they would be the first graduating class of 2000 – the new millennium.

So what’s this got to do with cruising I hear you ask? Never, let it be said that cruise companies aren’t down with the kids! Amadeus river cruises are the latest to target this market. They will have a chance to experience the  Danube, Rhine and Rhone rivers, and each will be hosted by a widely-recognised figure from social media. There will be lost of interesting talks on health, nutrition and general wellbeing.

But perhaps the greatest draw for the cruise lines is the social media aspect. What better way to get your name out there – just imagine a celebrity blogging about their upcoming river cruise and even better whilst they are enjoying the experience live feeds on their accounts so followers can see what is happening and what they are missing out on. Jut think of the advertising costs for a television advert – it runs into thousands – but get a celeb on board, pay their fare and hey presto you have thousands of people looking at your product – clever eh?

Uniworld have already targeted this generation – I wonder who will be the next to follow?
