How Much?

How Much?

Last week, out of the blue, I woke up on Friday morning with horrendous back pain.

I tried to brave it out, taking pain killers and clamping a hot water bottle to my back! but nothing was working.  I am not one for going to see my Doctor, in fact, before my visit on Friday, I had not been in over 2 years, so imagine my shock when I was given my prescription and my Daughter went to the Chemist to get it filled – £25.00!!

I admit, I was vaguely aware that the costs of medicines had increased but I was astounded at the cost.

Anyway, I have been dosing myself up for a few days and it is getting better.

But whilst I have been laid up I started to think about an e mail I received from one of my customers a short time ago. Unfortunately, she fell ill whilst on a long haul cruise, she is quite elderley and was travelling on her own. She was seen by the Doctor on board, and given lots of tests and medication. Yes, she was poorly and received treatment for the illness but the bill was an astonishing 4305.00 USD. The cruise line debited her card, leaving her almost penniless, and all they had to say about it was that she had signed upon embarkation that any charges were to be paid from her card. As you can imagine how upset she was?

Another customer of mine was treated on board and had to pay 350.00 USD for 10 antibiotic pills – that’s 35 USD per tablet!

I appreciate that there are costs to visit the medical team on board, but surely they should try and keep the costs as reasonable as they can. Not every situation is covered by insurance.

Have you had issues with the health costs on board?

Do you think the charges are reasonable?
