Want An Experience? Try Hurtigruten!

Hurtigruten; although the name to me it sounds more like a bowel complaint, this Norwegian based cruise line is actually one of the most unique brands of holiday, and cruise, in the market today.

The inspiration for this blog comes from a couple of clients that I booked aboard a Hurtigruten voyage to the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights last week.

After trawling through various offers on various different cruise lines, they had asked my advice about Hurtigruten as a brand, but because the line is somewhat less mainstream than others, my knowledge about the product compared to others was a little more limited.

So I set about readinig up more and learning a little more about them, and what I discovered was this Hurtigruten is altogether a totally different animal that anything else out there!

Firstly looking at the ships, they are relatively basic, a few luxuries here and there, but don’t be expecting Cunard or Silversea here. Basic really is the wrong word I found…more appropriate is the word ‘necessary’.

You see, the ships are not regular ships, they are Ice Breakers. Ships meant to withstand the elements, and the power of natures frozen wonders.

Don’t get me wrong, the quality is not lacking. Excellent cuisine and a well stocked bar along with comfortable enough accommodation will see you right on their ships, but what Hurtigruten are all about is the Voyage itself, the ship is secondary. They want you to look and feel like a true explorer.

Ice expeditions and treks, off the beaten track wildlife explorations, husky rides, late night views of the top of the world, Cook, Shackleton eat your heart out! You get the idea.

My clients even get the night in a hotel at the tail end in Kirkenes giving them a fantastic nighttime views of the sky and daytime views that are of unrivaled beauty, a real feast for the senses.

Booking this trip for them really made me see Norway in a totally different way, and now I am hugely keen on experiencing Hurtigruten for myself!

So my point is, if you have that real adventurous streak inside your belly, and want to get out in the wilderness and experience something different, it’s time to pick up the phone, give me a call, get your big coat on, and prepare for Hurtigruten!

Hopefully this little blog has inspired you to take a look at this unique brand, it costs less than you might think, and will give you truly amazing memories.

In my next blog, we will be exploring Alaska and Denali through the eyes of one of my favourite customers, so watch out for that!

Thanks for reading, and always, until next time…..
