Celebrity Edge Looks Incredible!

So yesterday afternoon I was lucky to attend an online preview of some of the accommodation and facilities aboard Celebrity Cruises most ambitious ship ever built; Celebrity Edge….

I’ll be honest when I first heard the name of the ship, I thought it was an awful choice. However it’s since grown on me, and after watching the presentation, I now see the logic in the name Edge.

You see this ship is first and foremost all about design and technology, so phrases like ‘Cutting Edge’ really apply to this ship and has clearly given some inspiration to the name.

But that’s not all…

What Celebrity are trying to do here with this project and build, is actually bring you closer to the outside and surrounding ocean, or take you to the Edge of the ship, Edge of the Ocean, Edge of the World. It really is very impressive.

So how do they achieve this?

Well the first and probably most innovative yet slightly bizarre feature on the ship, will be a rising and falling multi-purpose seating area, which is actually attached to the OUTSIDE of the ship! Celebrity have so far given this area the name of, ‘The Magic Carpet’ on account of it’s unique ‘up/down’ function. It will be used as a viewing platform, a bar, restaurant and also cleverly, an easier way of tendering in port. It serves each different purpose depending on the deck it is stationed on. It certainly looks rather interesting as a concept, but I’ll be really interested to see the finished product.

Another new feature is something I have actually seen before, but never on an ocean cruise ship….

Celebrity will be using what they have called ‘Edge Balcony’ cabins. These are a spin on the regular balcony design, in the fact they are actually a huge top to half way down sliding glass window which is connected to the elongated section of the cabin, thus giving the effect of bringing the outdoors, indoors! This is surely taken from a similar design that I have seen River Ships use. As my readers may know, I sailed aboard Emerald Sun about 18 months ago and the cabin we had used the exact same technology, and I must admit it really was good.

Some of the new cabins, especially the suites, look absolutely unbelievably. Celebrity will be especially proud of their ‘Edge Villas’. A huge two floor suite, complete with panoramic glass, a private splash pool, and a stunning living area. These will set you back a few quid, but needless to say, after seeing the early designs, my lottery ticket was immediately purchased.

There will be more to come on Celebrity Edge, this is the most excited I have been about a cruise ship in some time as I am a huge fan of Celebrities after my own experiences aboard Solstice and Reflection, to of the finest ships at sea today in my opinion.

So watch out for more exciting news!

The ship is ON SALE NOW! With her first voyage due Mid-December 2018, just in time for Christmas! So why not take a look and give me a call?!

I’m checking with the wife tonight and potentially looking at Easter 2019, so who knows, perhaps I’ll see you onboard!

Thanks for reading and as always, until next time……….
