    Our ocean environment concerns.

It was reported on the news today that nine ships in the 2010 Alaska season out of the 230+ had to skip the port due to the wave and wind action and the reduced depth of the pier. It will now be increased to allow larger ships to moor safely

How big are the ships going to be able to dock at Victoria. Would look at the size of ship doing the Alaska cruises so i can wave to you and your family from my balcony.

    Hi Edna,
So far ones over 980 - 1,000 feet in length dock but we are wanting to ensure we can handle the latest. We have not had any Alaska ship that could not dock due to its length but want to ensure the newest.
Two things, as in Bonaire and other Islands the ship can dock along a wharf but it also has lines that stretch out from the bow or stern or midship to mooring posts to what looks like little concrete islands in the middle of the area or sometimes you see just a small iron walkway.
We have placed like in place and between the docks as we have four we are deepening so the ship can manoeuvre better when waves and currents are high.

PS; Like my new profile picture, thought I'd expose myself.
    Cheers
