Sun Bed Wars

Recently you may have seen the ‘Choose your sunbed ‘ debate thats been all over the news and social media and has really gotten tongues wagging.

To re cap the story in brief, Thomas cook have decided at a few select hotels starting in Summer 2018 customers can actually pore book there sunbed before they depart, they can chose from a  map exactly where they would like to position themselves for the duration of there holiday and pay a fee per sunbed depending on the spot you choose and which hotel hotel. So you could choose to be close to the kids pool etc.

My first thought was wow this is ridiculous, seriously what is it coming to when you have to pay, which is around £25 per sunbed to reserve your spot, what if you dont like the location on arrival? What if you spend more days at the beach than on your sunbed and there sat empty for days while other guests who may off not reserved beds cannot find any! There are so many reasons for being against this and finding it a pretty silly idea!

But , on the other hand, have you traveled in peak Summer dates? Where unless your up at 5.30am placing your towels down you haven’t got a hope of getting any? Or other situations ive personally been in are there doors to access the poolside are locked until 8am and as soon as they open guests are running to get there spot? Or another, sunbeds are chained up until a set time again but people physically reserve there ‘pre’ spot by placing towels on the ground, blow up inflatables or tying towels around the parasols? It is a crazy dog eat dog world when it comes to sunbeds!

Cruise ships are no different, if you want a spot by maybe the main pool, where theirs entertainment or games possibly , you need to be up early getting that spot otherwise forget it, your on the side somewhere miles back!

I personally like to be relaxed, ill take whatever’s left when I arrive at the pool at a suitable time for me and my family.

What kind of sunbather are you? Up early to place those towels down? Or laid back, take what you get?

It will be interesting once the season starts to hear reviews of anyone actually reserving there beds through the Thomas cook scheme and whether this process is working out and worthwhile for them.
