Hurricane Season is Here

Hurricane season has definitely landed with an almighty bump this year, first hurricane Irma wiped its way across the Caribbean and if that wasn’t devastating enough Hurricane Maria is also currently spreading her unwanted’ness around the beautiful islands too.

Maria hit the small island of Dominica earlier this week causing devastation, I visited this beautiful Island earlier this year as can truly see how awful this must be for the locals, Dominica is such a lush island but the homes are made from wood and tin and are easily flattened, roofs being torn of homes. currently there are 15 dead and 20 missing people on the island.

She later swept across Puerto Rico and the destructive winds have caused catastrophic flooding and power outages, the Virgin Islands spared the worst of the storm but still had major flooding and and damage to many buildings.

And extremely popular with UK tourists , Punta Cana region of the Dominican republic saw the hurricane approx 55 miles of the coast but the winds lashed and 20 inches of rain fell.

it is estimated the hurricane will now move onto the Bahamas but being so unpredictable it is hard to say where is next to feel the impact.

Unfortunately our summer season is the Caribbeans hurricane season, this is the reason many cruise liners do not even entertain placing there ships in the region during the summer, you will find significantly less options for Caribbean cruises compared to the winter when many ships head back to the region. The recent and current hurricanes have of course had an impact on the Caribbean cruises in the region but you must remember these are natural disasters and the cruise liners will do there best to keep you safe, this may result in itinerary changes or even cancelled sailings.

The poor locals of the various islands have lost there homes and have to start all over again,

My thoughts to all affected.
