Fabulous Crete

Last week my husband and I returned from a  5 night break in Crete to celebrate his 40th birthday, he used to work in Crete hence wanting to return again to celebrate with his Greek friends.

Thankfully our trusted Greek friend and hotel owner Nikos was waiting for us at the airport to take us back to the hotel in Platanes, ( I was panicking that he may forget! ) just outside of Rethymo and we had a gorgeous sea view room, perfect!

The area Platanes has plenty of restaurants and ltitle bars , all local taverna style and serving typical Greek dishes, my favourite!

On the evening of my husbands birthday we had booked  a table at a restaurant called Veneto in old town Rethymo, we had stumbled across it a couple of nights before and were shown around and wow what a gorgeous little place. The restaurant is located in the courtyard area of the boutique hotel Veneto, and is very private and such a  pretty location. Veneto is a Venetian mansion dating back from the 15th century so you can just imagine how beautiful the building was, they were even kind enough to show us around the suites on offer which were beautiful, perfect for a more city break style weekend away.

Food was exquisite, the wine sommelier helped us pair a perfect bottle of wine , or 2 I should say! It really was a highlight of the holiday and I would thoroughly recommend if you happen to ever be near Rethymo, make sure you definitley take a trip to the old town and if you can, pop in for dinner at Veneto you wont regret it!

We had a brilliant few days away in the sunshine and David had a fantastic 40th birthday and even had a personalised cake!

Thanks to all at the Christina hotel and Sky Park for the cake!
